Intermediate Gymnastics Classes (Girls Ages 6-17)

Building on the Basics

Progressing from beginner to intermediate gymnastics is an exciting milestone! Entry into our intermediate classes requires the approval and recommendation of a coach or supervising coach to ensure each gymnast is ready for the next level. If you're new to Spirit Gymnastics, we welcome you to join us for an assessment so we can place you in the right class based on your skill level.

Floor Skills

Tumbling skills play a major role in determining advancement in gymnastics. In this class, gymnasts will refine essential tumbling techniques like cartwheels, one-armed cartwheels, round-offs, and both back and front walkovers. We will also begin linking skills together, preparing students to tackle more advanced combinations.

Bars

In intermediate bars, gymnasts will master basic bar skills like back hip circles, pullovers, and casts. We build upon these foundations, working toward more challenging skills in the future, such as tap swings and kips. These elements will eventually come together in more complex bar routines.

Beam

Comfort and control on the balance beam are essential for moving to the intermediate level. While beginners focus on basic movements like walking, turning, and jumping, intermediate gymnasts will progress to more challenging elements, including rolls, leaps, cartwheels, and handstands on the beam. Intermediate students will also work on a high beam for an added challenge.

Vault

Vault is a gradual skill-building event that requires patience and precision. Intermediate gymnasts will continue refining key elements like sprinting, hurdling, and proper body positioning while vaulting over mat stacks. While many have not yet used the vaulting table, these foundational skills will prepare them for future vaulting challenges.
